Brazilian midfielder Oscar has officially called time on his professional career at age 34, following a terrifying cardiac arrest during a São Paulo training session last November that nearly cost him his life.

"My blood pressure was plummeting, my heart was stopping. They performed cardiac massage on me," Oscar recalled, describing the harrowing moment that would ultimately force him into retirement. It wasn't an injury, a transfer dispute, or a gradual decline that ended his playing days—it was his heart giving out on the training pitch.

The former Chelsea star confirmed his decision to retire on Saturday, a choice that, given the circumstances, was inevitable.

A distinguished career across the globe

Oscar's professional resume speaks for itself: 556 appearances, 136 goals, and 203 assists across stints with São Paulo, Internacional, Chelsea, and Shanghai SIPG. His journey took him from Brazilian football to the bright lights of the Premier League, before he became one of the marquee signings during China's lavish spending spree on foreign talent.

On the international stage, Oscar earned 48 caps for Brazil, netting 12 goals and securing an Olympic medal at London 2012.
