Usain Bolt Confirms Interest in Joining Wythenshawe FC Vets' All-Star Lineup
The world's fastest human being could soon be gracing a non-league football pitch in England. Usain Bolt has publicly stated his willingness to join Wythenshawe FC Vets, a veteran's squad that has taken social media by storm with their celebrity-packed roster.
This isn't your typical recreational football team. Wythenshawe Vets regularly features Premier League champions Danny Drinkwater and Marc Albrighton among their ranks. The squad also includes former Newcastle United striker Papiss Cissé, ex-Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland, and previous Everton attacker Oumar Niasse.
An astounding 17 players with top-tier English football experience are currently registered with the Football Association for Wythenshawe Vets. The impressive list includes former Manchester United stalwart Antonio Valencia, Joleon Lescott, Maynor Figueroa, and Danny Simpson. Even English footballing icon Emile Heskey has turned out for the side.
The club has exploded across social platforms, accumulating more than 30,000 TikTok followers. Their success extends beyond popularity – Wythenshawe Vets remain undefeated this campaign, winning all five matches in the Cheshire Veterans Football League while posting a remarkable +42 goal differential.
Sprint Legend Declares Readiness
During an exclusive interview with talkSPORT while attending a Formula E event in Miami, the eight-time Olympic gold medallist expressed genuine interest. When questioned about potentially joining the star-studded lineup, Bolt responded enthusiastically: "Listen, I'm ready. I'm ready. If I get into some shape, I'm ready to go."
The 39-year-old Jamaican superstar isn't new to football. Following his retirement from track and field in 2017, he secured a trial with Australian outfit Central Coast Mariners in 2018. During his time down under, he managed to find the net twice in a friendly match for the A-League club.
Despite his promising showing, Bolt never secured a professional contract. The Mariners extended an offer, but couldn't meet his salary expectations. He also participated in training sessions with Norwegian club Strømsgodset and German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund, though neither opportunity materialized into a deal.
Beyond appearances in Soccer Aid charity exhibitions, Bolt has largely stayed away from competitive football. That could potentially change. For defenders in the Cheshire Veterans league, facing the world's fastest recorded human could present a daunting challenge.
United Supporter Endorses Carrick's Impact
The Olympic icon is also a devoted Manchester United fan. He offered his perspective on the Red Devils' resurgence under interim boss Michael Carrick.
"We finally look like we've turned a corner with Carrick because the players look happy, energised, focused, they look ready," Bolt explained to talkSPORT. While acknowledging it may be premature to appoint Carrick permanently, he suggested three more matches of encouraging performances could alter his opinion.
For football enthusiasts tracking unique storylines, Wythenshawe Vets remain perfect this season with no indication of decline. Should Bolt actually sign with them, their viral popularity would skyrocket – and their already exceptional goal difference could become even more dominant.
